This time of year, the cold weather outside in Canada begs for warming stoves and flavours in the kitchen. Every year I make mulled wine and absolutely love it. Last year, I visited Norway this time last tear and I was able to enjoy gløgg at every turn. I was in heaven. Gløgg is very much like mulled wine, with a few tweaks, but the premise is the same. The biggest difference is that they garnish the cups with sliced almonds and raisins.
I really want to enjoy the flavours of mulled wine more often nowadays (and I like more than one cup), but I don't necessarily want that much alcohol (haha)! So I've come up with my own simple version: A non-alcoholic mulled tea. I hope you can enjoy this as much as I do!
Ingredients
- 2 cup of boiling water
- 6 tsp of Letterpress Mulled Wine Tea blend
- 4 cups of pure grape juice
- 1 cup of water
- 1/2 cup of fresh cranberries
- 1/4 cup raisins
- 1 sliced orange
- 1 cinnamon stick
- 1 Tbsp maple syrup (add more to taste if you like it very sweet)
Instructions
- Add 4 tsp of Mulled Wine Tea blend to a tea bag and let steep in 2 cups of boiling water for 5 minutes. Discard teabag (I like to put mine in the compost), this will be like extra strong tea. Set aside.
- To a saucepan add all rest of ingredients.
- Bring all to boil and reduce to simmer for 20 minutes.
- Remove from heat and strain solid ingredients from liquid (I also like to compost this). Add the pre-steeped tea, and stir to mix.
- Serve and enjoy! I like to add a fresh slice of orange, a cinnamon stick, and a few cranberries as garnish to the cups :)
